What is healthy aging?
Healthy aging is a set of principles that enable older adults to develop and maintain functional ability as they move through the aging process, so they continue to mentally function at their highest level. Understanding healthy aging empowers you to care for older adults, either in a work or personal capacity. When you study healthy aging, you'll gain a dynamic perspective of what aging means and how to address issues related to an aging population.
Improve the aging population’s well-being
This gerontology certificate teaches you about the multidimensional aging process. Coursework covers basic research principles, evidence-based interventions and formal models of program evaluation to assess issues related to aging. Throughout this certificate, you’re encouraged to take part in interprofessional teamwork and community collaborations. These experiences should be reciprocal, beneficial and sustainable to improve health outcomes for an older population.
In your courses, you'll focus on collaboration as you build the competencies necessary to work on a team that cares for older adults.
