What is the value of a master’s degree in nursing?

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) encourages nurses to strive for higher levels of education to enhance quality of care and meet the needs of diverse patient populations. In 2019, AACN endorsed a new position that all nurses should take the next step in their education in an effort to create a highly educated nursing workforce.

For Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)-prepared nurses, a master’s in nursing program can provide a pathway to career advancement. It can also prepare you for a Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
