In this master’s in education with a concentration in educating multilingual learners program, you’ll learn to recognize, articulate and critique the relationship between language, culture and identity. This key skill will allow you to innovate pedagogical best practices within a classroom or learning environment. This program was designed by full-time faculty experts in bilingual/dual language education, linguistics and literacy education. The program also supports current and equity-oriented theory, pedagogy and practice surrounding teaching multilingual learners.
Is this an English as a Second Language or TESOL degree?
While this program does support learners seeking English as a second language (ESL) training, the curriculum extends beyond ESL. It includes content appropriate for both educators and individuals working within their communities at nonprofits or other organizations in which language education is beneficial, such as a refugee coordinator or liaison.
Does my multilingual education degree concentration say 'online'?
No, Arizona State University’s diplomas don’t specify whether you earn your degree online or in person. All diplomas and transcripts simply say “Arizona State University.” That’s because ASU Online students learn from the same faculty and receive the same course content as in-person students receive.
Please note your diploma will state the degree you earn: Master of Arts in education. Your concentration in educating multilingual learners will not appear on your diploma, but it will be noted on your transcripts.

You’ll take a variety of courses ranging from research and evaluation in education to multilingual acquisition, linguistics and policy. You will also complete a practicum course to apply what you’ve learned in this program in a real-world setting.
