What is a microcertificate?

A microcertificate is a graduate certificate that takes 9-14 credit hours to complete and offers a seamless pathway to quickly gain expertise in a targeted area. You may also be able to apply the credits you earn from a microcertificate toward a graduate degree. Speak with an enrollment coach for more information.

Online Indigenous education microcertificate courses

This microcertificate is a three-course sequence. Upon completing these courses, you’ll build a strong foundation in Indigenous studies, including colonial histories, Indigenous knowledge systems and language revitalization. You’ll learn how to connect education to sovereignty, community well-being and culturally grounded practice.

  • Leaders in Indigenous education, Indigenous studies and Native American research and policy, including contributors to the Journal of American Indian Education (JAIE)
  • Experienced collaborators with tribal education departments and Indigenous‑serving institutions nationwide
  • Founding members of ASU’s Center for Indian Education, a leader in Indigenous educator preparation for over 60 years
  • Native and Indigenous scholars whose teaching is grounded in lived community experience and policy expertise
  • Partners with Kamehameha Schools-Kaiāulu to integrate Native Hawaiian governance and education perspectives
