Taylor Stafford's academic journey began as a biology major at a community college, but her fascination for working with data set her on a new path toward discovering data science.
“I decided to look into it, and it turned out to be something that I’m very passionate about. So, combined with biology, it’s amazing,” she said.
Stafford had always wanted to go to Arizona State University since she graduated high school, but was uncertain if in-person classes would fit her schedule or lifestyle; until she discovered ASU Online’s Bachelor of Science in data science.
While comparing the degree to her community college’s program for data science, she discovered ASU Online’s program had better instruction and was more well-rounded.
“ASU is one of the leaders in data science in the nation and also one of the few that has an online program for data science, which is astonishing,” she said. “ASU makes sure you have the skills you need to succeed and that you are well-versed in your field.”
The data science program offers seven different tracks, such as behavioral science, business analytics and computer science. Ms. Stafford ultimately chose the bioscience track, where she would learn how to apply computational skills to life sciences research.
“Working with databases that are both already existing online and creating your own is something I find fascinating. It’s fun to see all those numbers and be able to manipulate it into finding answers to your questions and applying it to real-world situations,” she said.
