If you had told me a couple of years ago that I’d be in a sisterhood like this, I would have said you were very much wrong. Here I am, though, as a proud member of Delta Sigma. When I started ASU Online, I didn’t know it was possible for me to join a group like this, especially as a graduate student. I was always envious of my friends who joined sororities in their time as undergrads and the experiences they would tell me about. I didn’t think that could be me until the day I learned about Delta Sigma on social media.
I found out that they were having a rush week coming up and joined their rush group on Facebook in the fall. Once I started interacting with such welcoming, accepting women through the rush group, I just knew that I wanted to join the organization. On top of that, I was moved to learn about their philanthropy efforts being focused on invisible illnesses including mental health, which is something I'm passionate about. I loved their focus on social justice and bringing awareness to issues that are important to me. So I decided to rush! Every night of rush week, I learned new, wonderful things about the group and created connections with my sisters. I was overjoyed when I was chosen to join and have gained so much from being a part of this group.
I have gained sisters who are so supportive of me and are always there for me when I need a virtual hug, including my Big, Madison. I’ve never even met Madison in person, but she is so encouraging and one of my favorite people. I feel extremely proud to be her Little. We have tons of volunteering events throughout the year, and in October, we did a fundraiser for The Trevor Project. We have movie nights and study nights over Zoom where we get to socialize together. It’s so cool to be in Delta Sigma with members living across the country and the opportunity to meet up with sisters from all over for the first time.
I’m grateful that as an online student, I am able to form relationships like these and be a part of a sisterhood. I love all the different online groups that ASU Online offers because it has helped make my experience as an online grad student something I will never forget.
