ASU Online's writing tools

If it’s been a few years since your last academic assignment, you may begin to worry about having the writing skills needed to successfully complete your coursework. That’s where ASU’s Online Academic Success Programs come in. Outside of the support you’ll receive from your professors, advisors and fellow students, ASU’s University Academic Success Programs offer the writing tools you need to succeed in your online graduate program.

Resources at your fingertips

Need another reason to love these free services? Much like ASU Online graduate programs, these can be accessed anywhere you have an internet connection. With these resources at your fingertips, you can feel confident that you will be supported throughout your entire graduate experience.

Graduate writing center

The Graduate Writing Center is available by appointment and offered fully online in an Adobe Connect meeting room. These one-on-one tutoring sessions last fifty minutes, and students can schedule up to four appointments a week. Students can bring any writing assignment to their appointment and the graduate writing consultant will provide feedback and resources to help improve their writing.

Writing groups

Another great tool is Writing Groups. These consist of graduate students from different programs who offer feedback on each other’s writing assignments, allowing you the opportunity for peer review and to connect with other online graduate students. To be matched with a Writing Group, attend an online workshop, then work with your groupmates to choose when to meet and what assignments to review. Writing Groups typically meet over Skype, Google Plus and through Google Docs.

Online workshops

ASU’s Writing Centers offer multiple online workshops for graduate students every semester. The workshops change every semester, but include topics like grammar, thesis statements, abstracts, argumentative writing and how to excel in an online course. The workshops are held through Adobe Connect and are highly interactive. Explore upcoming events for a complete list of online workshops and how to access them.
