The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) placed Arizona State University in the top 0.5% of universities worldwide, and ahead of universities such as Michigan State University, Georgetown University and Florida State University.

CUWR is the largest academic ranking of global universities using a quantitative approach around the following eight objectives: quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, publications, influence, citations, broad impact, and patents.

In 2016, President Barack Obama lauded ASU as an “academic and technological leader” after its partnership with Vietnamese universities to boost training in science, technology, engineering and math. Additionally, ASU partnered with two international research institutions to launch the PLuS Alliance, a tri-continental partnership to find solutions to global challenges and expand access to world-class learning.
