Admission standards
Each program has its own unique admission requirements, but first, you must meet ASU’s minimum admission requirements for all master’s, certificate or doctoral programs. The requirements are:
Bachelor’s degree requirement
You must have a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from an officially recognized international institution.
GPA requirement
You must have a minimum of a 3.00 GPA in the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate studies. However, if you are unable to meet this requirement, your application may still be considered.
International applicants
International students have the same application standards as domestic students. Students whose native language is not English need to submit proof of English proficiency. Student visas are not available for online international students and international students currently residing in the U.S. with an F-1 visa may not enroll in online programs. Discover all international applicant requirements.
Program requirements
Graduate programs may also have additional application requirements including:
- Letters of recommendation.
- GMAT or GRE test scores.
- Current resume.
- Short-answer questions.
- References.
- Personal statement.
You can review the specific program standards, requirements and application materials on the graduate degree program pages.
Submit materials after applying
Make sure to submit any additional materials required by your department. Your application may be considered incomplete, and the review process will be delayed until all materials are received. Any document ASU receives becomes property of the university and will not be returned to you.
Complete online application
The ASU graduate admission application is available online. The application takes around 30 minutes to complete and you can save your progress at any stage to finish later.
Here are some things to keep in mind as you complete the application:
- Select ONLINE as your campus of choice.
- You will need to submit one set of transcripts from every college and university you’ve attended.
- ASU accepts unofficial transcripts during the application process.
- Have any required supplemental information ready for submission, including letters of recommendation, self-reportable test scores (your official test scores will still need to be sent later), and personal statement or statement of purpose.
Note: An unofficial transcript is an uncertified copy of your academic record, which you may have in your possession. Your unofficial transcripts contain information about courses taken for credit, grades, grade changes, semester GPAs and probation/disqualification status.
If you are admitted to ASU, you will be required to send official transcripts to the university.
Applicants applying to a legal degree within the Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law need to fill out a separate application. Apply to the law school.
Pay application fee
After completing your online graduate application, you will be required to submit a nonrefundable application fee. Your application will not be processed until you pay this fee.
- $70: ASU Online programs.
The application fee covers the administrative cost of processing applications.
Send in your transcripts
Although you may submit unofficial transcripts in your application, ASU requires official transcripts upon your admission. Official transcripts are sent directly from the college(s) in which you received a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Photocopied and notarized transcripts are not acceptable. Any document ASU receives becomes property of the university and will not be returned to you. If you attended ASU, you do not need to request ASU transcripts be sent. Learn about requesting official transcripts.
If sending electronically
Transcripts sent via email may be accepted if sent directly from an authorized school official at the issuing institution, or from a third-party verified source, to ASU at gradtranscripts@asu.edu.
You may also use services such as Parchment, eSCRIP or National Clearinghouse to send electronic transcripts. Choose Arizona State University on the request form to make a request for your institution to send us your official transcripts.
If sending by stamped mail
Write your application reference number on all documents and envelopes you send to avoid application processing delays. Send your transcripts to the address below:
