What is interdisciplinary studies?

Interdisciplinary studies combines multiple academic disciplines into one major. This creative and flexible program is ideal for students who are undecided, have recently transferred or want to pursue multiple areas of study such as history and philosophy.

A benefit of this online interdisciplinary studies degree is its emphasis on experiential learning. To graduate from this program, you must complete an applied project (sometimes referred to as an internship) or work with faculty on a research project. The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts will work with you to help you find an internship that fits your interests.

This interdisciplinary studies program allows you to build a degree unique to your passions and goals. You’ll select two different concentrations from more than 30 available options, with advisors available to help you choose. One of the most popular combinations is to pair a concentration in business with a second focus in psychology. Some other concentration pairing options include:

  • Personal health and integrative health.

Additionally, this bachelor’s degree can be completed as part of an Accelerated Master’s program. When accepted, you can earn a master’s degree in as little as one year after completing your undergraduate degree. Interdisciplinary studies courses

In addition to completing required courses, you’ll take part in a culminating experience. Available options include an internship, directed study or research fellowship. Internships include 125 hours with your sponsor, as well as accompanying online coursework. The directed study option involves the creation of an original thesis or project, which can be useful if you want to pursue a graduate degree. The research fellowship is highly competitive and involves assisting faculty members with research or other ongoing projects.
