What is a biological science degree with an emphasis in genetics, cell and developmental biology?
This exciting online bachelor’s degree in biological science is the first-of-its-kind to integrate three related areas of life science research: genetics, cell and developmental biology. Genetics is the study of genes and the science of heredity, or traits passed down from one generation to the next. Cell biology is the study of cells – the smallest units of life – and their structures and functions. Cell biology is important because it explains how all living things, including people, animals and plants, live. Finally, developmental biology uses both genetics and cell biology to understand how multicellular organisms grow and develop.
The combined study of genetics, cell biology and developmental biology can help lead to a better understanding of diseases, regeneration and aging. This concentration requires coursework at the intersection of genetics, genomes and developmental biology. Our curriculum allows students to have a very focused understanding of these pathways. We tailor the program requirements to strongly prepare students for graduate and professional degrees in genetics, medicine and genomes.
What is an online bachelor’s degree in biological science?
Biological science is an umbrella term covering the many branches of biology, including genetics, cellular biology, developmental biology and more. In the Bachelor of Science in biological sciences with a concentration in genetics, cell and developmental biology program, you’ll investigate genetics, cell function and their dramatic influence on human life.
What will I learn in a biological science BS degree?
In a biological sciences bachelor’s degree, you’ll explore different areas of biology and examine biological questions of interest. This program is ideal for students interested in studying classical genetics, genomics, molecular biology, developmental biology, evolution, biochemistry, cellular biology, regenerative medicine and more.
