Seven top tips from your orientation instructors

ASU Orientation is a week-long class, preparing undergraduate students for success in online classes through assessments, articles, videos, assignments, tips and strategies. Orientation instructors are dedicated to ensuring students are equipped with the skills they need to begin ASU Online coursework.

The instructors for orientation are used to working with students that are new to online learning, college-level classes, and/or ASU and compiled a list of helpful tips to know, before you dive into classes.

Tip 1: The best browsers to use in ASU classes are Chrome and Firefox. Both are free to download. For additional tech tips and download information review our technology and time article.

Tip 2: ASU’s Tech Support is available 24/7 by calling, chatting or email. For all ASU Online technical problems, contact ASU’s tech support for assistance at 1-855-278-5080 or through chat (note that calling is usually faster).

Tip 3: Microsoft Office 365 is free for ASU students. Log in to My ASU and download directly.

Tip 4: Review what tools students need to successfully participate in online classes.

Tip 5: Get free online access to the New York Times as an ASU student.

Tip 6: To ensure students are ready for proctored exams, they should upload their photo in MyASU. Simply click on the Profile tab, click on the placeholder image, click browse then locate and select an image and upload.

Tip 7: For information about using Canvas, review the welcome page in Module 0 in your orientation class, or the Canvas Student Guide.

There are three types of orientation; ASU 10, for Starbucks College Achievement Plan students, ASU 11, for ASU Online students, and ASU 42, for ASU Online Military students. If you haven’t already, register for orientation to learn more and prepare for your ASU Online classes.
