Starting on the path to earning your degree can come with many stressors. Among them, the fear of failure, worrying about the time commitment, and even how to navigate the various resources that ASU Online offers. Thankfully, ASU Online offers every student a resource to manage all of this: your success coach. I won’t lie, when I was first introduced to my success coach, I didn’t really see the point of the position. Since starting my studies at ASU Online, I’ve learned that I rely on my success coach more than I could have envisioned.
Initially, we talked about how I came to ASU Online, what my goals for my first semester and after I graduate were, and how I planned to get there. We went over time management skills and a brief overview of the online resources available to ASU Online students, including career services for after graduation. When I had questions about the tuition assistance benefits offered by the military, my success coach was not only able to find all of the answers for me, but also put me in contact with the Pat Tillman Veterans Center for further advice.
Aside from being your personal connection to Arizona State University, your success coach plays a huge role in keeping you motivated to achieve the goals that you set at the beginning of this journey. Many of us had some tougher times than usual in 2020, but we’re still here. My success coach cheered me on every step of the way, sharing my excitement, empathizing with my struggles, and being genuinely invested in my success as an ASU Online student and beyond.
If you’ve yet to engage with your success coach, I recommend taking the time to set up an appointment. Even if you think that you stand to gain nothing from it, you may be as surprised as I was to learn what a powerful resource you have. We may be studying all over the world, but we have an amazing link to ASU that makes being a student here easier and will help us reach the finish line.
