Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
ASU Online and Extended Campus offers Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in partnership with other educational and professional entities.
A CEU measures individual participation in noncredit continuing education. A CEU is a quantitative measurement that records, reports, and recognizes participation in continuing education activities or programs. It is a standardized unit of measurement for awarding non-degree continuing education credit.
How are CEUs calculated?
CEUs are based on contact hours: 10 contact hours are equal to 1 CEU, Anything less than 10 hours of participation counts as a decimal measurement (i.e., 12 contact hours is 1.2 CEUs).
What kind of programs can be awarded CEUs?
The CEU is intended to serve all interests in noncredit continuing education, whether public or private, individual, institutional, organizational, governmental, or societal. CEUs may be awarded for any type of subject matter.
How do participants use CEUs?
Participants may acquire CEUs to meet requirements for:
- maintenance or improvement of professional competencies
- evidence of personal and vocational growth and adjustment to meet changing career demands
- preparation for a new career
- demonstration of a conscious and persistent effort toward personal development
What do CEUs cost?
CEUs are $15 per participant. There are two methods of CEU payment:
- participant pays $15 by check payable to Arizona State University.
- program pays the CEU fee for the student.
